    Venus Rose Victor!!
I've just had the pleasure of watching Venus Williams reclaim the Wimbledon throne as the rightful heiress. For a long time it looked as though she wouldn't win it, though. I really didn't think so, since I supported Venus. If you support one player, the other player always seem more solid, you see just the mistake your man (or girl) makes. The good things they do, you don't tend to notice.
Venus seemed insecure, human actually. In the match with the Russian ursupator, killer barbie Sharapova, Venus Williams seemed at times so cool and controlled, it was quite robot-like. Not so in today's match. Venus' face, looked open, insecure, very fragile, very girlish, beautiful.
Davenport, on the other hand seemed cool, relaxed, business-like, impermutuable. And I have to admit, Davenport has a better sob-story, sport-wise. She's been out of tennis for some time, made a good come-back last year. She desperately wanted to do one last trick. And even I would have not have begrudged her the title.
But now she's lost two Grand Slam finals to the Williams sister, sisterly evenly divided. And while she makes a good sob story sport-wise, the Williams sisters make a far better sob story in life, especially Venus. Think about it: Venus comes from a very poor background. Lindsey comes from not only a rich environment, but also a relatively succesful one. Dad's an Olympian, Mum's a power broker in the US volleybal world. Hubby is a succesful entrepeneur. Davenport hasn't seen the hardship Venus has, not ever.
And, Venus had to suffer the fait of being upstaged by her younger sister! Not only did Serena win a Slam before Venus did, but she beat her in five Slam finals.
That said, I have to admit too, that Venus could've been more graceful in victory. After been arm-twisted by Sue Barker, she perfunctorily gratulated Lindsey, ("I couldn't have axed for a better opponent to lift my game"), giggled and laughed to the point of absurdity, and didn't mention any Wimbledon staff at all. One hoped she would've said something like "And I'm sure I'll play Elena Baltacha next year" or something complementary to the subdued Brits.
How different from the first time she beat Lindsey. Then she jumped too, but she also presented the Venus Rose Dish to the little crippled boy, who had done the toss. She then went around the whole arena, to show her prize to everyone. Not so this year. Oh well. From the fact that the BBC didn't even let Davenport speak, we could conclude that it had all to do with time constraints or something. Better luck next year.

    my very first time
    Hi,
this is my very first blog or whateveryacallit. Hence, I haven't got much to say. In general, I try to do nothing. But I fail miserably. My philosophy: the world is doomed by diligence. I also don't have hobbies. Except for the painting and the reading and the collecting 18th century smokegear.

I fully support actors who don't state the obvious. Such as their willingness to try on different types of roles.

Don't you just hate those kid shows on radio or tv or newspaper, which you wrote to, and always managed to subtly misunderstand you? I did and do still.

    Later more ...
